Speak Up: Web Site Redesign

October 5th, 2009 in ACAMUG, Site News

It’s time for some changes here at ACAMUG.org and I’d like to hear from the members about what you want to see. Ideas that I’ve been tossing around include the return of discussion forums and more member contributed content. I’m talking about beyond just posting news items on the front page. I mean, for example, an area where any member can create a How To on whatever Mac related topic strikes their fancy. Live chats a la the old AOL forums might even be possible.

But I want to make sure that people will actually use the new stuff, so I’m starting the discussion with this post. Add your comments about what you like and don’t like about the current site and what you’d like to be able to see and do through the site that you can’t do now. And I’d really love to see more than just basic suggestions like “add forums”. Think about how you’d like them to work. How they should look. What you could do with them. Describe it in words or make some sketches, however you think you can get the idea across. But start the ball rolling with a short comment about your idea on this post.

I don’t have a definite time frame for this but I’d like to get an idea of the scope of the final result so I can begin marshaling resources.

Let’s start talking folks.

iCal Meeting Feed Works Again

March 3rd, 2009 in ACAMUG, Site News

One of the recent site updates broke the sidebar iCal meeting feed “Subscribe to calendar in iCal”. All Better now. If you already subscribe to the feed your iCal should start displaying entries for future meetings the next time it is updated.

The iCal Calendar Link

December 16th, 2007 in ACAMUG, Site News

I just fixed a problem with the iCal calendar feed (the Subscribe to Calendar in iCal link in the sidebar) that was preventing it from including future meetings in some cases. If you use iCal to handle your scheduling needs it is worth subscribing the ACAMUG feed to keep up to date with upcoming meeting topics:

(1) Click on the Subscribe to calendar in iCal link in the sidebar, iCal should open and display a Subscribe to Calendar dialog. Click the Subscribe button.

(2) The ACAMUG Info dialog should now appear. Change the Auto-refresh pop-up menu from No to Every week to automatically update the calendar once a week. Leave the other settings unchanged. Click the OK button to complete the subscription.

You should now have an ACAMUG calendar in the left column of the iCal window and you should see entries for past and future meetings on the second Friday of each month.

“How To Guides” Section Added

September 25th, 2007 in Site News

The old Email and Download Hygiene Tips link has been moved into a brand new section that will serve as a repository for “how to” guides to perform useful tasks in Mac OS X itself or in specific applications. So far the repository just has the aforementioned hygiene article and a brand new Guide that covers three different methods of checking your Mac’s hard drive for problems and hopefully repairing them.

If you want to take a look click on the How To Guides link in the top section of the right sidebar.

And if you’ve got a Guide you want to share just contact the web site admin. Remember it can be on any Mac related topic that you think would be useful to other members.

Site Theme Update

April 26th, 2007 in Site News

I’ve made more significant changes to the appearance of the site. A little less ornamentation, less clutter in the sidebar, hopefully a bit easier to read, and it is no longer fixed width. The site content now fills the entire width of your browser window.

I’ll probably still be making minor tweaks for a while but if you spot any problems please let me know as soon as possible by emailing me at webmaster@acamug.org
