Hopefully Twitter updates on new and updates site posts are now working again. Still no support for tweets when someone posts a comment unfortunately.

Site News

September 20th, 2010 in Site News

First, the photo albums are working again. Flickr had made some changes that broke them. One plug-in update later they’re back.

Second, Twitter updates for comment posts on the ACMUG site are currently broken. Twitter has made changes to their site that break the updates and unfortunately it’s going to take a bit of code hacking to get them working again. I’m working on it and it should be back “shortly”.

Lastly, I’n still looking for members interested in posting news items to the site. It’s easy and surprisingly fun, you can do it all from your web browser. Just send an email to webmaster AT acamug DOT org and I’ll create your very own site login and point you at the URL where you can start posting. Seriously, give it a try. I guarantee you’ll enjoy the experience.

The Comments will be Tweeted

May 30th, 2010 in ACAMUG, Site News

OK, the site has been updated so that comments are now automagically tweeted to the ACAMUG Twitter account along with a link to the associated post. Add yourself as an ACAMUG follower on Twitter and you’ll be able to follow what’s happening via your Twitter stream.

Please be aware that this also means that comments to the site which weren’t particularly private before are less so now as they can potentially be seen by any Twitter user. If this is an issue for people please let me know and we’ll work out a way to override this behavior.

Site Comment Changes

March 22nd, 2010 in ACAMUG, Site News

Previously, due to a never-ending stream of comment spam, every comment submitted to the site had to be manually approved by the web site administrator before it would appear on the corresponding post. This was the reason why comments could take a long time to appear.

As of today comments submitted by people who have already had at least one approved should appear more or less instantly on the site. Note that this requires that you use the same name and email address each time you submit a comment.

I’m also trying to arrange for Twitter tweets to be sent to the ACAMUG twitter account whenever a new comment appears on the site but at the moment the only available web site plug-ins that support it seem to be broken. I’ll keep trying.

ACAMUG’s Got a Twitter Feed

October 21st, 2009 in ACAMUG, Site News

We now have an official ACAMUG Twitter account! If you add “acamug” to the list of Twitter users you are following you will get tweets whenever something new is posted on the front page of our web site.

For those who haven’t discovered Twitter yet, it is a free “micro-blogging” service. After joining you can post “tweets” of up to 140 characters which other Twitter users can see and respond to.

Visit the Twitter site for more info.
