Adobe Creative Suite 3 on March 27th

March 5th, 2007 in General

According to a report at MacWorld UK Adobe plans to launch Creative Suite 3 on March 27th. This will be the long awaited Universal version that can run natively on both PowerPC and Intel processor based Macs. The lack of native versions of PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, GoLive, etc. has been a major sticking point preventing adoption of Intel Macs by many creative professionals. Creative Suite 2 will run on Intel Macs but considerably slower than it does on PowerPC Macs.

This should also help kick-start sales of Apple’s Mac Pro desktops.

Buy Software For Child’s Play

December 6th, 2006 in General

A few years ago the guys who create the gamer oriented web comic Penny Arcade! created an amazing charity called Child’s Play which donates new toys, games, books and other goodies for use by sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world. To date they’ve donated over a million dollars in items and 100% of the donations including the cash go directly to the hospitals, everyone involved donates their time and effort.

This year a group of Mac developers have decided to donate all proceeds from the sales of their software on Thursday, December 7th to Child’s Play.

So, while you’re checking the site for details about the party on Friday take a minute to head on over to Child’s Play Day by Mike Zornek to check out the links for the participating developers and products. I suspect you’ll find application you never knew existed that you can really use. SlingShot looks like it does something I’ve been wanting for a long time: synchronize data and iTunes playlists between my Macs.

Buy yourself an early holiday gift and somewhere you’ll make a sick child’s hospital stay a little bit happier.

Google’s Mac Software & YouTube Acquisition

October 10th, 2006 in General

Google’s Mac Software Page

Google has a new look for the Mac Downloads section of their web site featuring links to download Mac specific Google related applications:

Google Earth we’ve already seen demoed but anyone interested in 3D should take a look at SketchUp, a 3D modeling application designed for ease of use.

And there is also an Official Google Mac Blog!

GooTube?

Google has also officially announced their purchase of YouTube, the most popular video sharing service on the Net. YouTube has quickly become the unofficial Net repository for just about any video content you can imagine, from current virals to video journals, old TV shows and concert footage.

Much of the commercial content has probably been uploaded without permission from the owners of the rights to the videos so it remains to be seen what will happen to that once Google takes over. Let’s hope they find a way to preserve it rather than purge it.
