Here’s the big news from Steve Jobs’ WorldWide Developers Conference 2010 keynote:
New iBooks Features (Apple’s eBook Reader App)
- Create Notes and Bookmarks in your books
- Adding display of PDFs later this month
Netflix for the iPhone
- Coming to the iPhone this Summer (already on the iPad)
- Seamlessly pick up from where you stopped viewing between devices.
- Stream through 3G wireless network
- Free (but only useful if you have a Netflix account.)
iPhone 4
- All glass and steel (glass on the front and back sides)
- 24% thinner than the 3GS
- Front facing camera
- Retina Display: four times as many screen pixels (326 pixels/inch), 800:1 contrast ratio (also four times better than the 3GS)
- A4 processor chip: 7 hours of 3G talk, 6 hours of 3G browsing, 10 hours of WiFi browsing, 10 hours of video, 40 hours of music, 300 hours standby
- Gyroscope for true 6 axis control for games, etc.
- New camera: backside illuminated sensor for better light sensitivity, LED flash
- Record hi-def (720p) video as 30 frames/second
- iMovie for the iPhone! ($4.99 in the AppStore)
- Video chat (a.k.a. “FaceTime”) over wi-fi network via front facing camera!
- Available in black or white
- $199 for 16GB model, $299 for 32GB model
- Previous 3GS 8GB model will be available for $99
- Pre-order June 15th, on sale June 24th
iPhone OS 4
Has been renamed iOS 4 to reflect its use on other devices like the iPad. Microsoft’s Bing will be available as a search option. Out for iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4 and iPod touch June 21st and it will be FREE. iADs (Apple’s in-app ad “feature”) will be turned on July 1st.
Apple has previously said it would be available for the iPad in the Fall.
