This post is the place for everyone to share their experiences so far installing and using Mac OS X 10.6 a.k.a. “Snow Leopard”. If you’ve upgraded leave a comment even (particularly?) if everything went well.

I updated two machines: my iMac and MacBook Pro. Overall everything went very smoothly and I’m really happy with Snow Leopard.
iMac: I erased the HD and migrated from a Time Machine backup. Everything went well except for some oddities with extra Network Locations I had set up. Some available devices (Airport and Ethernet) were missing from some of the Locations. I finally trashed the OS network preferences (two files in /Library/Preferences/System Configuration/) and manually recreated the Locations and all is well.
MacBook Pro: Backed up with SuperDuper!, erased the HD then migrated from the backup. The first migration attempt did NOT restore any of my 3rd party apps. I suppose it’s possible I accidentally turned that checkbox when I started the migration because it worked fine the second time. No Location problems here.

Everything went as easy as pie – easier actually. My favorite new feature is being able to use a slider to size the icons in a folder. It is perfect for image files. It is much faster on my desktop but the MacBook (1.1) isn’t that much faster. It even fixed my problem getting my old scanner to work – just as I had decided to get a new one! Only problem is getting my Spell Checker app to work. You don’t have to wait to do this upgrade. Carolyn

I just tried launching iPhoto for the first time since updating my iMac to 10.6 and it was crashing instantly. I discovered that one of the custom iLife code frameworks was missing! I managed to recover without re-installing iPhoto by transferring it (/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iLifeSlideshow.framework) from my laptop to the same location on the iMac and now iPhoto launches again.
As far as I can tell the framework was not copied when I used the system migration feature of 10.6 to restore my data after installing Snow Leopard.
THis may be the first OS version where I recommend doing an in-place upgrade instead of a clean install and migration.
