iPhone OS 3.0 is Out!

June 17th, 2009 in Apple, iPhone

Plug your iPhone into your Mac, launch iTunes and check for updates on the iPhone summary page and you should be greeted with the news that the new iPhone OS 3.0 is now available for download!

Well, at least you can download it now. I can’t update at the moment because Apple’s activation servers have melted under the load of early updaters.

This update is free for iPhone users but iPod touch will have to pay $9.95 for it.

I logged on to iTunes around 1:30 and purchased the 3.0 update. It downloaded and installed flawlessly by 2:00. This was after updating Leopard to 10.5.7 and Safari to 4.0 (now 4.0.1) the night before. All went very smoothly except Mail kind of freaked out but after a force quit and relaunch it was back to normal. The two things that I did in preparation were 1) a time machine backup and 2) I used DiskWarrior to rebuild the directory.
