It is curious that no mention was made about updating iLife and iWork. Could they be saving that announcement for the next conference - whatever / whenever?? Leopard looks enticing.
That was probably the most surprising aspect for me. I was semi-suspecting there wouldn’t be hardware announcements to avoid stepping on the iPhone launch, but to not even mention iLife or iWork seems odd, especially with the amount of time given to recapping features mentioned last year.
It didn’t feel as polished over-all as I expect from Jobs. Announcing the new Dock and Finder then rehashing 6 or 7 previously announced features didn’t seem right. Either they didn’t put as much work into this keynote as usual (because Jobs is busy with the iPhone release prep) or there were late changes made. The Sun CEO pre-announced Apple’s support for their ZFS file system last week and it’s possible Jobs yanked any mention of it as a sort of punishment, it’s happened before.
My big question is still why the release date is so far off, four more months. If this is a near final beta then one or two months should be sufficient.
The next opportunity for an announcement is probably the October Leopard release. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
