After a three month immersion in Mac OS X on a 17 inch MacBook Pro Scot Finnie of ComputerWorld has decided to stick with the Mac as his primary machine. Having spent “hundreds of hours testing Windows Vista” he is obviously familiar with what its capable of and his opinion is that Apple’s operating system is the better choice (he also currently recommends Windows XP over Vista.)
Microsoft’s marketing materials for a past version of Windows used the phrase, “It just works.” But the only computer that tagline honestly describes is the Macintosh.
Its a fairly long article, and there are also two previously published parts in the series, but it’s worth checking out how an honest to goodness Windows pro approached his three month experiment with the Mac and ultimately decided it was the better choice. Scot is still looking for a few specific pieces of Mac software so help him out if you have suggestions.
UPDATE: Courtesy of Damian, here is a link to Forbes’ Vista review:
As you might guess from the title they aren’t exactly blown away by it. In fact its a pretty brutal review:
The new slogan is: “The ‘Wow’ Starts Now,” and Microsoft touts new features, many filched shamelessly from Apple’s Macintosh. But as with every previous version, there’s no wow here, not even in ironic quotes. Vista is at best mildly annoying and at worst makes you want to rush to Redmond, Wash. and rip somebody’s liver out.
Probably not the reaction the Redmond folks were hoping for.
