Hot on the heels of the MacBook Pro update, Apple has also updated the MacBooks:
The most significant change is the upgrade of the processor from Core Duo to the better performing and cooler running Core 2 Duo, but its possible there may be other changes under the hood. The recent MacBook Pro and iMac updates also seem to include a new version of the chips that provide AirPort wireless networking. The new chips support the draft specification for the 802.11n standard which boasts greater range and potentially much faster transfer speeds. Apple isn’t saying anything about this yet but its entirely possible official support will come either in a future software update or in Leopard once the standard is officially approved (given previous lawsuits over issues such as DVD playback support in older PowerBooks its understandable if they’ve decided to wait until they’re sure it will work.)
It remains to be seen whether these new MacBooks also sport the same improved wireless chips, I’m sure we’ll hear about that as soon as people start geting their hands on them.
