- Mac OS X 10.4.4 will be available via Software Update later today
- Saturday Night Live sketches and college bowl games added to iTunes Music Store
- NEW iPod remote control with FM tuner
Hardware
All Apple computers will be transitioned to Intel processors by the end of this year.
NEW MacBook Pro laptop (replacing PowerBooks):
- Uses the new Intel dual-core processors
- 4X – 5X faster than the current PowerBooks (fastest Apple laptops ever)
- 5.6 pounds, 1 inch thick, 15.4″ widescreen LCD, built-in iSight
- Apple remote control, Front Row included
- MagSafe power connector disconnects when its yanked
- Two models: $1999 and $2499 (differ in processor speed, RAM & HD size)
- Includes iLife ‘06
- Shipping in February, taking orders today
NEW iMacs:
- Same sizes and same design as current
- Uses the new Intel dual-core processors
- 2X – 3x faster than the current iMacs
- Mac OS X 10.4.4 and iLife are “universal binaries”" (both PowerPC and Intel code)
- Runs most existing non-Intel apps transparently via “Rosetta” emulation
- Intel native MS Office due in March, but current version runs fine
- Includes iLife ‘06

- Built-in podcasting studio
- Works with iChat to record remote interviews
- New jam pack: World Music
NEW iWeb ‘06:
- Easily build “beautiful” web sites
- Apple designed themes
- Integrates with other iLife apps
- Blogs, podcasts, RSS feeds
- One click .Mac publishing
Steve closed with a semi-cryptic comment about April 1st, 2006 being the 30th anniversary of Apple’s founding as a corporation. Maybe we’re due for another big event in a few months time?
