Want to Work at the Atlantic City Apple Store?

December 22nd, 2005 in Apple

OK, its officially official. We’ve received the following email from an Apple retail recruiter. I’ve removed the specific contact info so it can’t be skimmed from the site by spammers so members with an interest in contacting Sean should send me an email and I’ll reply with the specifics:

From: Sean Celli
Date: December 21, 2005 12:55:07 AM EST
Subject: APPLE RETAIL

Hi ACAMUG,

As you are aware, we are opening an Apple Store in Atlantic City! We are on the search for fantastic talent and hope you may be able to help us out. Many MUG’s across the US have passed the word to their members that we are seeking talented individuals to work as Creatives, Mac Genius and Mac Specialists in our stores. Interviews will take place in January - could you please pass my contact information along to your members?

Thanks!
Sean Celli

Farewell, Internet Explorer

December 20th, 2005 in Apple, Updates

In case you missed it, Microsoft has announced that it will officially end support for Internet Explorer for the Mac on December 31st 2005 and pull the download from their web site on January 31st 2006. It seems to be a cause for consternation on some Mac news web sites but given that the last update, version 5.2.3 for Mac OS X, was released two and a half years ago (6/16/2003) the announcement that they “will provide no further security or performance updates” shouldn’t exactly elicit a gasp of surprise. That there are still a few sites that only work with IE Mac says more about the state of their cross-browser support libraries than its superiority to more current browsers like Safari or Firefox.

Photo Albums

December 10th, 2005 in General

Joe Mancine emailed a few of his photos from the holiday party last night which provided the motivation to add support for them on the site. The result, via the slick FAlbum plug-in for WordPress, is the Photo Albums link in the side bar. Click it to view all of our Flickr hosted photo albums which at the moment consists of Joe’s photos. Maybe we should consider making him the official ACAMUG photographer?

The Holiday Meeting/Party

December 9th, 2005 in ACAMUG

Don’t forget that our annual holiday party is tonight (Friday, the 9th). You should have received an email with directions but if not send a request before 5pm with the subject “Party Directions” to webmaster@acamug.org and I’ll send you a copy. An update from Dennis: “What we failed to post in the announcement is that this event is always a ‘Pot Luck Dinner’ which means that each member coming to the meeting will bring a dish, entree, appetizer, desert, beverage or whatever they wish and together we’ll make a great meal for all.”

Atlantic City Apple Store Redux

December 7th, 2005 in Apple

Though there has not yet been any confirmation from Apple, there is evidence that we will be seeing a new Apple Store located in Atlantic City, possibly at the upcoming The Piers at Caesars rising at the site of the old Ocean One mall (Warning: the site is very Flash heavy and takes a while to load even on a high-speed connection. It also grabs the entire screen and features a slightly less than subtle but fortunately optional continuous surf sound loop but, hey, the webcam’s pretty slick.) Click on “The Show” to see virtual billboards for some familiar companies, including one with some relevance to our group.
